A CYPRUS beach holiday is one of the most popular in the Mediterranean. With more than 300 days of sunshine annually any Cyprus beach is a major magnet for UK holidaymakers who fly out their thousands throughout the whole year.

Cyprus lies just off the southern coast of Turkey at what, in ancient times, was the seafaring crossroads of Europe, Asia, and North Africa. This strategic position made it much fought over and there have been long occupations by Greeks, Turks and the British.

As the third largest island in the Med after Sicily and Sardinia, there is plenty of room for everyone on a Cyprus beach. Cyprus has a large central plain called the Mesaoria, and a string of majestic mountain ranges that separates north and south.

The climate is typical south Mediterranean - long, hot and dry summers and very mild winters, although winter snow can fall in the Troodos mountain region.

The capital city, Nicosia, sits slap in the centre but all the other major cities are coastal. You will find a Cyprus beach at Paphos, Limassol and Larnaca along the south coast, Famagusta to the east and Kyrenia in the north also boast fine beaches that have turnined them into major holiday destinations

Since 1960 Cyprus has been a sovereign republic. A bloody Turkish invasion in 1974 split north and south. The political situation in north Cyprus is still a hot potato but relations between Greeks and Turks are now much more relaxed and Northern Cyprus is growing fast as a holiday destination.

Cyprus is just one of many perfect vacation destinations for those looking for luxury holidays in elegant surroundings and stunning locations.
